Toyota Subaru Sports Coupe

It was rumored last April that Toyota and Subaru would collaborate on the development of a new affordable sports car. This news has now been confirmed with the unveiling of the 2009 Toyota FT-86 Concept.

Subaru is still facing the burns of the last year’s recession and does not have sufficient funds to start with the production of the new sports car project. Subaru is facing another point of worry is that they have been always promoting the benefits of its symmetrical all wheel drive system and now shifting to rear wheel drive system in their new edition remains controversial.

It is clear that the new car will be a Subaru version to the core. The new edition will feature a four cylinder boxer engine in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged. Subaru is tight lipped about their new project but there are rumors that they may eventually launch a high performance all wheel drive system.

It is expected that the company may launch a six speed manual transmission as standard with an option of automatic transmission.

Subaru ‘s version of the new sports car is only an idea and there is time to get it into facts, while the Toyota ‘s version of the car is scheduled to go on sale late next year or early 2011. It will first hit the Japanese market before it is distributed globally.
